Your blaster is only as good as the ammo you feed it. Get your gel balls right and everything runs smoothly; get them wrong and you'll fight jams and weak shots all day. Here's how to prep them like a pro.
What are gel balls?
Gel balls start as tiny dry beads made from a super-absorbent polymer. Add water and they swell to roughly 7-8mm - the size most blasters are designed to fire. They're non-toxic, water-based, and biodegradable.
How to soak them (the right way)
- Pour the dry beads into a container - a little goes a long way, so don't overfill
- Add plenty of clean water (they'll expand a lot)
- Soak for 3-4 hours in room-temperature water
- Drain the excess and they're ready
Tip: a single teaspoon of dry beads makes hundreds of balls - start small until you know your ratio.
Getting the size just right
- Too small (under-soaked): may double-feed or misfire
- Too big / mushy (over-soaked): balls turn fragile and burst in the mag
- Just right: firm, glossy, and about 7-8mm - they should bounce lightly, not squish flat
How many do you need?
A single game can burn through thousands of balls, so soak more than you think - a good rule is 1,000-2,000 balls per player per session. Soaking a big batch the night before saves time on game day.
Storing your gel balls
- Dry beads: keep sealed in a cool, dry place - they last for months
- Soaked balls: store in a sealed container with a splash of water; use within a few days
- Shrinking? Add a little water. Turned mushy? Time for a fresh batch.
Dial in your soak and your blaster rewards you with smooth feeding and consistent range all day.
